Only 33% of Catholics Believe In The Eucharist?

I’ll say this first—faith in the Eucharist doesn’t depend on witnessing a miracle. These events are extraordinary signs meant to deepen our faith and love for Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament, but know that the Eucharist you receive at Mass is the same body and blood of Christ! In 2019, the Pew Research Center conducted a comprehensive survey on the religious beliefs and practices of Americans, including a focus on Catholics’ understanding of the Eucharist. The study found that only about one-third (33%) of U.S. Catholics believe that during Mass, the bread and wine actually become the body and blood of Jesus Christ. This belief, known as transubstantiation, is a cornerstone of Catholic doctrine. Our Church is on a mission to re-ignite this fundamental belief of our Catholic faith. 

What Are Eucharistic Miracles?

Eucharistic miracles are instances where, after the consecration during Mass, the bread and wine appear to take on physical attributes of flesh and blood. These occurrences are rare and are often subjected to rigorous scientific examination to deem them true. They serve as powerful testimonies to the belief that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist, beyond what our senses can perceive.

Historical Examples of Eucharistic Miracles

There are numerous recorded Eucharistic miracles throughout history. One of the most famous is the Miracle of Lanciano in the 8th century, where the consecrated host turned into human flesh and blood. Scientific studies conducted centuries later confirmed the presence of human heart tissue and type AB blood in the samples, a common blood type found in the Middle East.

Blessed Carlo Acutis and His Passion for Eucharistic Miracles

Blessed Carlo Acutis, a young Italian teenager who died in 2006, had a profound devotion to the Eucharist and a keen interest in Eucharistic miracles. Carlo used his passion for technology to create a website documenting these miracles from around the world, making this knowledge accessible to everyone. He believed that these miracles could help people strengthen their faith and realize the immense gift of the Eucharist. He was absolutely right, and His faith and example of a holy life has led many to believe in the Eucharist once again. Carlo is now on his way to becoming a great saint in 2025! Praise God!

Carlo once said, “The Eucharist is my highway to Heaven.” He saw the Eucharist as the center of his life and encouraged others to do the same. He wanted people to understand that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist and that receiving Him in Communion is the greatest privilege of our faith.
